The Sunshine Coast hinterland is a geographically stunning wine region — cool mountain air, deep volcanic soils and rolling views over the Blackall Range make for boutique wineries and small vineyards producing premium, often award-winning drops. Cellar doors are close together, so a day out tasting is easy from Lillypilly's.
Flame Hill Vineyard — Montville
A short 2 km drive from Montville village at 249 Western Avenue. Estate-grown, hand-harvested wines from vines up to 80 years old — this is the cellar door most guests remember. Tasting and sales run Wednesday to Sunday from 10:30am to 5:00pm, with long lunches on the deck and terrace served Wednesday to Sunday, 11:30am to 3:00pm. Bookings recommended: +61 (0)7 5478 5920.
The Barrel at Clouds Vineyard — Maleny
You can't miss the giant wine-barrel-shaped building on the road into Maleny. Beyond the novelty is a multi-function venue with 360-degree views over the Blackall Range, a range of estate wines and local craft beers from Copperhead Brewery — a great sunset stop.
Maleny Mountain Wines
A family-owned Maleny label producing reds, whites, fortifieds and dessert wines — the Kurrajong Shiraz is a long-standing favourite. Small production, personal service and a genuine hinterland cellar door experience.
Craft Beer Add-Ons
Round out the day with a stop at Brouhaha Brewery in Maleny — one of Australia's most celebrated craft breweries with a rotating tap list and a food menu built to match. Copperhead Brewery pours at The Barrel at Clouds Vineyard for a two-in-one afternoon.
